The Netflix Royal Christmas Marathon

Netflix has quietly built its own Christmas universe: a series of royal rom-coms set in made-up European kingdoms, with characters and places that cross over between films. Watch them in order and look for the Easter eggs.

A Christmas Prince trilogy

A young journalist goes undercover in the kingdom of Aldovia to get the scoop on a playboy prince, and ends up falling in love.

  1. A Christmas Prince (2017)

  2. A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding (2018)

  3. A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby (2019)

The Princess Switch trilogy

Vanessa Hudgens plays a Chicago baker who discovers a duchess who looks exactly like her, and they swap lives for Christmas. In the third film, Hudgens plays three look-alikes who race to recover a stolen Christmas treasure called the Star of Peace.

  1. The Princess Switch (2018)

  2. The Princess Switch: Switched Again (2020)

  3. The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star (2021)

Bonus: The Knight Before Christmas (2019)

Vanessa Hudgens again, this time with a medieval knight who time-travels to modern-day Ohio. It's a cozy, silly delight.

Stream them all on: Netflix.

New in 2026

Netflix

  1. The Christmas Switch (Nov 12): A Swedish rom-com about two sisters with opposite personalities who swap lives before Christmas, and both find love where they least expect it. Starring Felice Jankell and Happy Jankell, and based on the audiobook Christmas in St. Anna.

  2. Guarding Stars (Nov 18): Leighton Meester plays a bodyguard protecting an action star (Jared Padalecki) who poses as his girlfriend over Christmas at his family's ranch. With Andie MacDowell. A fake-dating romance and probably the season's buzziest rom-com.

  3. In a Holidaze (Dec 2): A woman relives the same holiday season after a romantic mistake until she figures out what will truly make her happy. Starring Maddie Ziegler, Graham Phillips and Rob Lowe. It's based on Christina Lauren's bestselling novel, so it's also a BookTok pick.

Prime Video

  • The Man With the Bag (Dec 2): Arnold Schwarzenegger plays Santa, teaming up with a thief (Alan Ritchson) to recover his stolen bag. Fun, but it's a heist comedy, not a romance.

Elsewhere

  • The 12 Dates of Christmas (Hulu, Nov 6): Lucy Hale and Ian Harding in a remake of the time-loop dating rom-com.

  • 'Tis the Season for Setups and Holiday Touchdown: A Bears Love Story are streaming now on Hallmark+.
